Hennepin County Jail, also known as the Adult Detention Center, is a facility located in downtown Minneapolis, Minnesota. The jail holds individuals accused of crimes before their trial, and they are referred to as inmates during their stay. The jail has two locations across the street: the Hennepin County Public Safety Facility building and the City Hall. Contacting and Visiting Inmates

To post cash bail or bond for an inmate, you can do so 24/7 at the Hennepin County Public Safety Facility. You will need to have the case or warrant number and bring the exact bail amount in cash. For bail information by phone, you can call 612-348-5112, ready to provide the inmate’s full name and date of birth.

You can visit inmates by video, as in-person visits by friends and family are currently not allowed. Visits can last up to 20 minutes and cost $4.00 per 20 minutes. Inmates can have visitors once a day and up to three times a week. To schedule a visit, you need to create an account at Securus Technologies and request access to visit at the Hennepin County jail. Your request will be reviewed by jail staff, and once approved, you can schedule visits online.

Video visit hours are as follows:

  • Monday through Friday: 10:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
  • Saturday and Sunday: 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Supporting Inmates

You may send money to a prisoner in several ways, including in-person at either jail location, online through the Access Corrections website, or by U.S. mail.

Support for Inmates

Volunteers regularly visit the jail to provide instruction and mentoring to inmates. Chaplains also provide spiritual counseling to inmates upon request. There are various educational opportunities and meetings such as Alcoholics Anonymous, parenting classes, drug abuse prevention, and support for battered women. The HOPE program classes and training are also offered to help inmates create better opportunities once they’re released.

In-person visits are currently not allowed by friends and family due to restrictions, but you can visit someone in jail by video using the Securus Visitation app. The jail staff reviews the request and approves appropriate visitors. Video visits cost $4.00 per 20-minute session.
